Grants

Texans for State Parks, in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, provides small grants for development grants to assist those working to build new partner groups, or to grow and enhance programs or activities of existing park partners.  Texans for State Parks offers grants of up to $600 to State Park-affiliated nonprofit partner groups (Friends Groups).

Funds may be used for:

  • Membership Development – printing, postage, advertising, recruitment events
  • Pre-event expenses such as insurance, food, equipment or advertising for fund raising events.
  • Purchase of inventory for profitable resale
  • Training for board development, grant proposal writing, etc.
  • Newsletter or website expenses
  • Professional fees associated with start-up activities
  • Other TfSP approved purposes

Funds cannot be used for:

  • Gifts to the park.
  • Capital improvements.
  • Salaries

Guidelines:

  • Applicants must be have an Memorandum of Agreement with TPWD or submit a letter of support from park management supporting their development
  • Applicant should be a 501-c-3 tax exempt organization or in the process of obtaining that status

Applications must include:

  • Purpose of request
  • Detailed accounting of how the money is to be spent with timeline.
  • Documentation of status (Memorandum of Agreement or letter of support, By-laws, Tax ID number (501-c-3)
  • List of current board members
  • Minutes of board action approving the application.
  • Brief history of the group
  • Current goals and financial status and budget for this project.
  • Anticipated outcome

Grants will be awarded quarterly. Applications will be screened by TfSP Board Committee for and presented for approval at the following TfSP Directors meeting. Results will be announced and within 30 days of deadline date.

Grantees will be required to report outcome of project to TfSP within 90 days of receipt of funds. Report should include benefits accomplished with the funds. Photos and quotations may be published on TfSP web newsletter.
